HALLS CREEK DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
Project Type
District High School
Location
Halls Creek WA, Australia
The Halls Creek District High School Secondary Facility upgrade provides a new Performing Arts Facility, Secondary Staff Areas, Science Laboratory, Material and Technology Facilities, and a separately funded Federal Government funded Trade Centre.
Site constraints, functional differences and relative scale of the Performing Arts and Material and Technology Building required a different design approach to be taken for each building.
The new Performing Arts Facility has been placed on the north-west corner of the site providing a newer engaging entry statement with the art component being incorporated into the external facade corner.
The Material and Technology Building reflects its industrial purpose with a simple shed like form and wide verandahs typical of the region.
Our approach to the building aesthetics has been to produce a built form that is functional, embodies the architectural characteristics of the Kimberley, and provides a good platform for maintenance minimization and environmentally sensitive architecture.
